Kiwano Hotels

1-leaf status

As part of what we do here at Kiwano we advise hotels that don’t meet the criteria on how they can reach the renowned Kiwano seal of approval, sharing knowledge; working tirelessly to get more hotels inspired to join the green movement.

  • Energy
To illuminate the walking trails sun-chargeable lamps are used. The lightbulbs at Mallín Colorado are low consumption LED bulbs that emit less heat and use less energy...

Public places are fitted with light sensors, so that only the necessary amount of energy is used, and it isn’t wasted.

  • Water
The lodge is self sufficient, with water for the lodge sourced from their own creek. Guests and staff alike are conscious about water usage, for example shorter showers are encouraged here.
  • Waste
The lodge has an on-site composting system which is used to fertilise their greenhouse. There is a strict recycling stream, providing specially designed containers in the public areas for guests...

to separate recyclable materials which is then taken to recycling facilities.

  • Conservation
The lodge runs a reforestation project, planting approximately 200 new trees a year on the property, including Lenga, Coigue and Rauli trees. They also ensure that the hiking trails are well-maintained.
  • Food
Mallín Colorado aims to use local produce where possible. They even have their own organic garden where they grow vegetables and herbs such as parsley, oregano, chives, tomatoes...

zucchini cucumber and more. Guests can also expect to enjoy wild berries such as blueberries, raspberries and Calafate berries that grow wild on the property.

  • Engage Guests
Mallín Colorado are currently working on this criteria, watch this space!
  • Architecture
Mallín Colorado was built with great consideration for its surroundings; the private log cabins, the wood clubhouse, a log quincho (bbq) and laundry house were built from native wood.
  • Housekeeping
Only eco-friendly cleaning products are used at the lodge. Last year they switched from plastic toiletries to bigger, refillable bottles to significantly cut down on plastic waste.
  • Kiwano Bonus
There is no television or music systems at the lodge for energy-saving purposes, as well as this it reduces noise levels. The idea is that guests have the chance to reconnect to nature and unplug...

The soothing sound of birdsong comes from the 12 hectares of park.

    "Modern and stylish"

An extremely beautiful and very special place, very isolated (in a good way), in the middle of nature, but all cabins and rooms are modern and stylish. Food in the restaurant was excellent too! But the best has to be the views over the lake and the calmness of the forests surrounding it!

    "Comfortable Lodge in Stunning Location"

In March 2019 my family and I stayed four nights at the lodge. Our room was clean and comfortable with a great view of Lake General Carrera. The property itself is gorgeous and has numerous hiking trails. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The lodge is remote but it's a great base for exploring the Aysen region of Chilean Patagonia. We would definitely stay there again

"Lovely lodge in a stunning location"

We loved our one-night stay at Mallin Colorado! My spouse and I arrived late in the evening and were immediately welcomed by the manager. Our room was very comfortable - hot shower, very comfortable bed, and beautiful interior design that reflects the natural beauty of the area. We also appreciated the nice little touches, like knit booties to borrow, and complimentary tea in the lounge room.

    "Relaxing place"

Everything was perfect and we’ve had a relaxing time. The room was clean and individually designed by the owner! All are very new built considering ecological elements. The view onto the lake is awesome and the dinner was just excellent! Paula, Felipe and all their stuff are open-hearted, honestly and gave us insider tips for exploring further Patagonia! We heartily can recommend that place to everyone!
